The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse

An outreach of Community Hope Ministries

Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. Luke 2:52

Our main goal at the Lighthouse is to ensure that as the children and youth grow older they become wise, strong, godly and have righteous relationships. Through discipleship, the kids build a foundation of Christian character that will draw their family, friends, and community to Jesus.

Most of our children come from disadvantaged and broken homes. We give each child an opportunity to discover the love and power of God. We treat each child as valuable. This transforms a poor child’s view of himself. Namibian Schools close at 1:00 PM, and kids are on their own for the rest of their day. When they arrive at the Lighthouse, we welcome them with a hot meal, and a safe place to study and play. We encourage the children to develop healthy social relationships that will guide them into their adult years, choosing good friends and making wise choices.

Why Support Community Hope?

“My wife Susan and I met John and Suzanne Hunter during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. They were YWAM missionaries with a desire in their hearts to serve orphans in Africa. From our first meeting to many visits in the States and abroad, we have been enthusiastic supporters of God’s work through the Hunters. As an educator at Greater Atlanta Christian School, I have admired the educational approach and philosophy implemented in one of the poorest areas of Windhoek, Namibia. The Hunters, their teachers, and staff have loved and taught children with the highest goals in mind. Not only do they show the love of God consistently, they also provide the best possible instruction to children who long to learn. Having taken several groups of students from our school in Atlanta to serve with the Hunters, I have witnessed firsthand the difference their ministry makes in a community. Our family has supported the Hunters throughout their work in Namibia and will continue to do so. Jesus loves when we serve ‘the least of these.’ This is what the ministry of the Hunters is all about."
